Josh Kantor's 7th Inning Stretch: Opening Day Edition
Since 2003, Josh Kantor has been the organist for over 1,600 Boston Red Sox games at Fenway Park, becoming a cult favorite known for all-over-the-map song choices and for taking requests via social media from people in the stands. It has led to him performing over the past decade with Death Cab for Cutie, the Decemberists, Drive-By Truckers, Guster, the Jayhawks, Aimee Mann, Old 97's, Joan Osborne, Mavis Staples, Trombone Shorty, Eddie Vedder, Wilco, Yo La Tengo; with members of Blondie, Boston, the Go-Go's, Led Zeppelin, Pavement, R.E.M., Sleater-Kinney; and with many many others.
At the start of COVID, Josh and his wife Mary began "The 7th-Inning Stretch" -- a daily livestream of songs and stories from their living room -- to offer a virtual taste of live music, baseball, and camaraderie, and to raise money for food banks. The show struck a chord and was profiled by several major media outlets around the country; along the way, thousands tuned in as songs and good vibes flowed, and as scores of music/baseball/culture celebrities called in via Zoom for candid and humorous conversations about their work.
Now having done over 240 living room episodes, Josh brings a stage version of "The 7th-Inning Stretch" back to City Winery, with special guests, to celebrate the start of baseball season.
