Compaq Big Band - A Big Band Christmas Feat. Marina Evans
The exciting 19-piece Compaq Big Band returns to City Winery with very special holiday shows, just in time for Christmas. The show will be filled with seasonal favorites like you’ve never heard them before - powerful, inspirational, and just plain fun. Even the biggest Grinch can’t help but get in the Christmas spirit!
The band features the power of 14 horns, a cookin’ rhythm section, and talented jazz vocalist Marina Evans out front. The styles you’ll hear on December 22nd run the gamut from terrific swing and jazz treatments of holiday classics to very UNtraditional variations of jazz rock, ballad, samba and jazz waltz – all high-energy arrangements from such greats as Gordon Goodwin, Count Basie, Tom Kubis, Sammy Nestico, and John Clayton. Marina will be channelin’ Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Krall, Linda Eder, Mariah Carey, and much more. Part of the Compaq Big Band’s rotation of stellar New England jazz vocalists for over ten years, she was born and raised in Rockport, MA, and currently resides in Gloucester. Beginning her career as a teenager performing the American Songbook in a jazz duo, Marina found her voice as a songwriter while in college in New York City. She has written and released 4 original EPs and a full-length album. In writing, recording, and touring, she has traveled across the United States, to London, and to Italy, where she collaborates with Italian artists in producing her work.
